PANGOLIN SMUGGLERS CAUGHT RED-HANDED IN SWAKOPMUND
Three Namibians caught red-handed in Swakopmund while allegedly trying to sell two Pangolins – a rare and endangered species. The three individuals were caught by NAMPOL Reservists and NAPU members in the parking lot at the Jetty in Swakopmund. According to the men they caught the two animals in the vicinity of Tsumeb. It was an adult female Pangolin with her little Pangopup by her side. Pangolins are extremely rare and an endangered species in Namibia often trafficked for their scales made out of Keratin. The animals were alive and well and were taken by officials of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism and set free again. The animals were found in a wooden crate covered in blue plastic on the back of a white pickup.
